If there is one thing that we have learned over the last 30 years of Reaganomics is, the only thing worse than a “free-market” Corporatist Republican is a Corporate Democrat. Unfortunately, that was the ‘change’ we got.
Why is it worse you may ask? Well, let me give you an allegorical comparison:
Republicans come in like the BP Oil Disaster, like we see now in the Gulf. They create a wide-spread infiltration into every ecosystem, without any real care for the long-term impact of their behavior. They get in power by saying that Government doesn’t work, and then prove themselves correct by removing regulations, installing ideological lackeys in every major department, creating a culture of behavior that private, more costly solutions, are far superior, and remove accountability at every level. But even worse, they don’t trickle or seep out over a long period of time… no, they burst the well head with great force and immediacy.
After the facts are clearly seen (which may take a bit of time, due to a lack of releasing the real information to the public), the oil has come up to the surface and the talking points of tar balls being ‘normal’ can no longer be believed, the Democrats are sent in to clean it up.
Now, instead of the Democrats going in there in the same bold and forceful way as the Republicans did by causing the catastrophe, we head out there in a dingy with a Dixie Cup and one sheet of Bounty paper towel saying, ‘we got it!’… ‘no worries, this is 200% more action than what was previously done, we’re going to get tough on this!’
Inaction is the enemy
When are Democrats going to learn that we were at our best, and America was at its best, was when we followed our principals though swift, bold leadership? This wasn’t a fluke! The largest expansion of the middle-class that the world has ever seen didn’t happen because of Conservative economics. The massive expansion of this great country, roads, schools, education, bridges, airports, the manufacturing base, and protections for workers, seniors, and children didn’t happen because of Conservative policies. These were Liberal policies that many Democrats and left-wing Republicans fought for.
In politics the middle way is none at all. – John Adams
The President and his cabinet are exactly these types of Corporate, ‘paper towel Democrats‘, who believe that compromising your principals, and capitulation to any disagreement, is an equivalent means to progress.
We worked VERY hard to get the President elected. We were the ones who gave up weekends, evenings, and vacations to Get Out The Vote. We were the ones who defended him at community events and family dinners. We fought against the onslaught of falsehoods, insults, and the Republican ‘Tea-bagger’ Manchurian Candidate paranoia.
So, where are OUR Bushies?
Where is our Progressive champion? Where did our representation go? Where are our bold and dynamic policies?
After 30 years of constructed Conservative economic policy failures, why do we even CARE what the party of failure has to say?
Time and time again, we give in to any pressure that the Republicans throw our way, yet we continue this cycle despite the overwhelming evidence that these policies suck (to be blunt).
Let me take the Democrats to the corner for a tiny chat…
Look, Democrats, I know you are built, by design, to always look for compromise and common ground. You see the very best in people, despite their repeated and successful attempts to demoralize you and lie to your face. We get it, you freakishly enjoy others bullying you. But this has to stop, at least temporarily.
The Conservatives have no desire, nor do they have any plans, to govern anything. Hell, they don’t think the Government CAN or should do anything except blow stuff up, or save them after a disaster, and the Republicans messed that up for us too! All they are really super-duper good at is bullying.
Just do me a favor, stop letting them walk all over you.
There is a difference between being calm and rational, and being viewed as weak and cowardly.
When they say ‘I object’, or they try and filibuster, throw your hands up like you were in a Baptist church on a Sunday.
Stomp around like a preacher, and make a scene.
Go crazy! What do you think, that will make you look upset? We’re all upset- it’s time for you to join us.
Sometimes you need to pick up the flag and run towards the breech. If for nothing else but to show effort.
This is a PR war, and the GOP understands this better than anyone else. Lee Atwater understood and implemented this strategy 30 years ago- it’s time to catch up, guys.
Use statements like:
- The GOP keeps taking the ball and going home instead of fixing the problems of the middle-class
- The right-wing keeps tying our hands with political red tape
- The CONS are being childish again
- We tried it your way for 30 years, I think the proof of how that did is taking a walk down America’s main streets.
- Republicans think HOPE is just another four letter word
- Attacking is easy, solutions are hard
- The party of ignorance is at it again
- Schoolyard Bullies don’t like change. Should we negotiate with Bullies?
- Whining doesn’t solve problems- preventing them from happening does
- The Republicans have sold out to the highest corporate bidder- is that YOU America?
- Conservative chest thumping doesn’t fix anything, and they know that
- The definition of Conservative is opposing CHANGE- We all voted for CHANGE in 2008. Lead, Follow, or get the HELL out of the Way!
Grow a pair, will ya!
No more paper towel Democrats! Where are our Bushies?
