What it means to be a Democrat… Our 10 Core Values and Principles

September 2nd, 2010

I get this question all the time.  Unfortunately, Democrats aren’t very good at reducing ideas into easily digestible sound-bites.

I’ll take each item in the list and expand on it in future posts, but I wanted to give what I thought were our 10 core values and principles.

Let me know what you think…

RESPONSE:

The Democratic party, founded by Thomas Jefferson, shares the same ideal as our nation’s motto:

E pluribus unum- “Out of many, one.”

We stand for:

  • Liberty
  • Justice
  • Equality for all
  • Community
  • Strong Middle Class Jobs
  • Defense of our shores
  • Modern Infrastructure
  • Economic Stability and Prosperity
  • Energy Independence
  • Environmental Protection

UNCOVERS:

We are a nation of WE, not a nation of ME.

Radical Health Care Reform- [StrongDems]

March 22nd, 2010

RESPONSE:

This Health Care bill is to the right of President Nixon’s 1974 proposal.  That tells you just how far the Radical Right has gone.

FOLLOW-UP:

The GOP leadership is trying to scare you, because they have absolutely no idea of how to solve the problems of working-class Americans.

They definitely know how to help the Corporate fat-cats; they know how to crash stock markets; they know how to grow the size of the deficit; they know how to destroy the manufacturing base of this country.

The Radical-Right-Republicans have the audacity to criticize anyone after what they have done over the last 30 years?  Give me a break.

UNCOVERS:

Radical-Right-Republicans is a description that works.  It also is exactly the definition of what GOP policies over the last 30 years have been.

The unfortunate side-effect is the Democratic party has also shifted far to the right.  And as the line continually shifts farther and farther right, the average American loses control of the reins of their own Government.

SIDE POINTS:

Nixon’s Plan

About

February 15th, 2010

“Talking Points” are often seen as a strategic informational attack on a target topic, typically to propagandize, specifically using the technique of argumentum ad nauseam, i.e. continuous repetition within media outlets until accepted as fact.  They may not necessarily be factual in any way, shape, or form, because they are tools used in information warfare.

The Republican Party (GOP) has been extremely good at this over the last 15-20 years.  We have moved into the sound bite era, and they are winning the battle.  Mostly because they are well-organized (in this regard), and because the conservative mindset is to look for a father figure, and follow the leader.

That is NOT what we are looking to do.

StrongDems.com will be a Blog/Twitter/Buzz delivery system for our thoughts on topics that come up daily.  These talking points will be factual, not simply to score points.  Our hope is that we can give you the tools, in short form, to combat the misinformation war that is being fought from one side.

When it comes down to the 15 second sound bite, you need to counter-punch without a long-winded explanation.  If you are explaining your position, you’ve already lost.  We Democrats have lost this ability over the years, and being tough is no longer an option.  If you are not angry about what is going on in Washington, you haven’t been paying attention.  Fighting Dems need to stand up for our core principals, explain them clearly, and show that we are the Party of the Middle-Class.

The Democratic Party has a rich heritage, a distinct set of core values, and a commitment to community.  Together we can make this site a success.  We’ll be expanding it very soon, so bear with us while we get the site up and running.
