Market-Based Solutions to Health Care- [StrongDems]

March 26th, 2010

RESPONSE:

We have been using market-based solutions since the 80′s… how has that been working for you, middle-class?

FOLLOW-UP:

The Republican answer to any problem seems to always be, ‘more of what didn’t work.’

The GOP has exactly TWO ideas:

  1. Less protection for anyone who isn’t a corporation
  2. Take from the Middle-class, and give to the Madoff-class

UNCOVERS:

These people are clearly not interested in protecting the middle-class from economic abuses of the wealthy.

SIDE POINTS:

  • The HCR bill is entirely private insurance corporations.
  • Getting rid of the pre-existing condition restriction allows for people to move between Insurance policies
  • Why is the moving of money from the policy holder to the doctor, a “market”?  They are banks, and do not provide any health care.

Thinking the Government Can Solve All Problems- [StrongDems]

March 23rd, 2010

RESPONSE:

Who do you think ‘The Government’ is?  It’s YOU!

‘We The People’ have the responsibility to protect the powerless against the abuses of the powerful.

FOLLOW-UP:

Can you, John Q. Public, fight Goldman Sacks?  Can you build your own tunnel?  Can you cap credit card rates so they don’t go up to 30-40%.  Can you stop a power plant from polluting?  Can you protect food from having diseases?  Can you make Insurance companies cover pre-existing conditions?

Not ALL problems should be solved by Government, just the ones that are controlled by multi-millionaires, and protected by high-priced Corporate Lawyers, out to make a buck on the backs of the middle-class.

When you have a system that gives more power to the wealthy, the odds are stacked against the favor of working families.

‘We The People’ make the rules of the game for Corporations in this country, not the other way around.

UNCOVERS:

Democrats are for the working-class, and Republicans are for the powerful elite.

The often repeated ‘bigger Government’, or ‘more Government’, makes it sound like the bigger Government is, the worse it is.  The fact is, the bigger Government gets, the more it indicates how BAD the problems facing the powerless are.

Government should be as large as it needs to be in order to do the job our founders created it to do.

Average Americans don’t have millions of dollars of their own to pay for lawyers; they don’t have the power to make the rules of the game that these Corporations play by.

Government is us, and only the collective power of an active democracy can insure the safety and security of all Americans.

SIDE POINTS:

Distrust of Government really began it’s overdrive campaign after Reagan famously said, “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help.’

Cancer Patient Who Wrote to Obama Will Not Lose Home, May Get Aid- [StrongDems]

March 16th, 2010

RESPONSE:

Read the statement from the Cleveland Clinic.  It says she may qualify for MEDICAID… you know, that big-government, “Socialist program” that helps 46.8 million people live!

FOLLOW-UP:

This was a perfect example of what REAL reform is needed.  So the Republican position is, make people pay pay pay, and then when they have absolutely no other options, the Government system, that they want to destroy, will help people.

The GOP position makes no sense.

UNCOVERS:

The Republicans are trying to play both angles here.  They don’t have a position other than, work against the Democrats.  We’ve seen what the results of their failed ideas do for the middle-class.  Why continue to try their ideas?

SIDE POINTS:

The preexisting condition part of the current Health bill doesn’t kick in, for adults, for another 4 years. This wouldn’t help Natoma Canfield be able to buy insurance.

Health bill contains a provision that can’t be repealed- [StrongDems]

March 11th, 2010

Might also be:

  • Senate Health-Care Bill Provision Would Make it Impossible for Future Congresses to Repeal Parts of Bill
  • Independent Medicare Advisory Board creates entirely new rules out of whole cloth

——-

RESPONSE:

This is an example of Republicans lying right through their teeth.   They are playing the American people for chumps, while lining the pockets of their insurance lobbyist friends.

FOLLOW-UP:

The Independent Medicare Advisory Board can be repealed by a vote of three-fifths of the Senate.  And if you missed the name, it says ADVISORY.

The Board develops Medicare cost-saving proposals which Congress must adopt unless it can come up with other ways to save an equivalent amount.

The commission would not be allowed to change Medicare eligibility or benefits, and its ability to change payment rates would be limited.

UNCOVERS:

Republicans will lie, distort, and use fear in order to kill any legislation they disagree with (or are being paid off to vote down).  The key here is to use the word LYING or LIE.

DO NOT use the words, hypocrisy, distortion, fabrication, exaggeration, or misinform- they are too soft.

People understand what a LIE is. Many will tune out for all of the long-winded explanation of how they’re wrong, and facts and figures often merge together.  In the end, what is important is they walk away knowing that it is a LIE.

SIDE POINTS:

CBO analysis estimated that the commission as described in the bill would reduce spending by $23 billion through 2019.

Big Government Health Care- [StrongDems]

March 5th, 2010

RESPONSE:

Would you agree to a nonprofit Insurance system like Switzerland has?

FOLLOW-UP:

People purchase insurance from private companies, but it is heavily regulated like a utility.  It’s a competitive market, consumer protection, and has very low overhead. Would you agree to that?

UNCOVERS:

With this approach, you’ll pull them away from the big/small Government set of talking points, and make them scramble for facts they don’t know anything about.  If they agree to it, you can ask them why this isn’t in the Republican proposal.

This will expose one of two things (or both):

a) They are anti-Government for everything (most importantly, oversight and protections for patients)

b) They show that they will not accept any system who’s excess profits cost the lives of patients.

Side points:

  • Extras like dentistry, alternative medicine, and semiprivate or private hospital rooms are covered by nominal supplemental insurance.
  • About 5-6% overhead
  • People buy coverage from private insurers, and the government provides subsidies for those who can’t afford coverage.
  • About a third of the population receives subsidies.
