RESPONSE:
Why don’t Republicans want to Protect JOBS and the American workforce?
We hear this all of the time, from CON-servatives. Would it help to underline the PROTECT in the word? Would that help you out?
FOLLOW-UP:
Look, tariffs and worker protection have been a part of our Government policies since 1789, until Ronald Reagan blew them up in the 80′s. How has American manufacturing been doing since then?
UNCOVERS:
Protectionism (i.e. tariffs, trade policies, worker safety, support) helps the middle-class. Every other country employs Protectionism in one shape or another. Conservatives (both Republicans and Democrats) have sold out to international industry. It’s time to bring it back home.
SIDE POINTS:
- Importing cheap crap from other countries
- Security breach- software/chips for missiles and jets not made in the USA
- Deficits go up
- Slave Labor
- Corrosive chemicals, like lead and cadmium, in kids toys
- Environmental disasters
- What happens when we disagree with their government?
- Giving money to Communist Dictatorships
- Bring Jobs back home
- Real Jobs for Real Americans
- Protectionism is what made Toyota (Japanese government subsidizes, and employs a high import tax for non-Japanese cars)

Libertarianism is Bullyism
July 13th, 2010Very simply, Libertarianism is Bullyism.
The Libertarian worldview is that the LARGER or more powerful the person/industry is, the better.
According to them, if they are in business, they MUST be right, otherwise the market would correct and put them out of business.
It doesn’t take into account:
UNCOVERS:
In fact, no matter what a Democratic majority of citizens want through public policy (Government- “We the People”), or organizations of independent people (unions, scientific groups, industry watchdogs), they still favor the most wealthy and powerful for-profit businesses.
This ideology is dangerously naive.
Our Government (the founding fathers created a Government, not Libertarianism) is designed to be citizens coming together, and determining as a group what is best for the society they are a part of.
Governments are tasked to protect “the People” from the schoolyard bullies. If Wal-Mart, with all of their money and power, was putting cadmium in all of their housewares products, how would a customer know without the Consumer Protections, or laws preventing them from doing something harmful? How would ONE person fight a HUGE multi-billion dollar organization?
Government fights for the little-guy, Libertarians fight for the Bullies.
