Barack Obama is the 7th President with a foreign-born parent.
- Thomas Jefferson‘s mother was born in England
- Andrew Jackson‘s parents were both born in Ireland
- James Buchanan had an Irish father
- Chester A. Arthur had an Irish father
- Woodrow Wilson‘s mother was English
- Herbert Hoover had a Canadian-born mother
Why doesn’t it make any difference AT ALL? A little something called the 14th Amendment.
14th Amendment, Section 1, as establishing that all individuals born on US soil are citizens.
The 14th Amendment is the very same thing that allowed Senator John McCain and Mitt Romney to run for President.
President Barack Obama was born in Hawaii, his mother was a citizen, and his birth certificate is HERE.
He’s a citizen, period, end of story. If you disagree, you are a complete moron, a fanatical nut-job, and that’s me being extremely polite.
FOLLOW-UP:
Any wonder why the repeal of the 14th amendment is a Republican talking point in an election year? Nah, must be a coincidence.
Do you think that if he wasn’t a qualified candidate for the Presidency, that John McCain or Hillary Clinton wouldn’t have used opposition research to win? It must be some conspiracy.
UNCOVERS:
The Republicans are attempting to use this non-issue to foment bigotry by characterizing the president as somehow invalid, or worse an “other.”
It is also the reason why a majority 46% of Republicans still think the President is a Muslim.
Let’s be clear, the position they are taking is so dramatically illogical, so far outside or reality, so self-delusional, that it can;t be anything else but racism, bigotry, and ideological radicalism.
Nothing this President could do would be able to satisfy them. He could show pictures, movies, footprints, and bloodwork documentation, but they would still say it was fake.
SIDE POINTS:
Short form vs. long form certificate:
A “certification of birth” is also known as a short-form birth certificate. The Department of Health releases an official short-form of non-private information, but retains information like Doctor, addresses, etc. privately.
The long-form is not a legal document in any way shape or form. It is drawn up by the hospital and includes additional information such as birth weight and parents’ hometowns.
How about a home birth?
Pretty much, those footprint documents are actually nothing more than a souvenir meant for scrapbooks. You can’t use it to get a Driver’s License, for example. The legal official short-form is used.
Supreme Court:
US v. WONG KIM ARK (1898)- the 14th Amendment guaranteed citizenship to all persons born in the United States, regardless of their ethnic heritage
The foregoing considerations and authorities irresistibly lead us to these conclusions: The fourteenth amendment affirms the ancient and fundamental rule of citizenship by birth within the territory, in the allegiance and under the protection of the country, including all children here born of resident aliens, with the exceptions or qualifications (as old as the rule itself) of children of foreign sovereigns or their ministers, or born on foreign public ships, or of enemies within and during a hostile occupation of part of our territory, and with the single additional exception of children of members of the Indian tribes owing direct allegiance to their several tribes. The amendment, in clear words and in manifest intent, includes the children born within the territory of the United States of all other persons, of whatever race or color, domiciled within the United States. Every citizen or subject of another country, while domiciled here, is within the allegiance and the protection, and consequently subject to the jurisdiction, of the United States. His allegiance to the United States is direct and immediate, and, although but local and temporary, continuing only so long as he remains within our territory, is yet, in the words of Lord Coke in Calvin’s Case, 7 Coke, 6a, ‘strong enough to make a natural subject, for, if he hath issue here, that issue is a natural-born subject’; and his child, as said by Mr. Binney in his essay before quoted, ‘If born in the country, is as much a citizen as the natural-born child of a citizen, and by operation of the same principle.’
And:
To hold that the fourteenth amendment of the constitution excludes from citizenship the children born in the United States of citizens or subjects of other countries, would be to deny citizenship to thousands of persons of English, Scotch, Irish, German, or other European parentage, who have always been considered and treated as citizens of the United States.

Mr. President, Where Are You? Extend Unemployment, period
November 19th, 2010That’s right, about 4 million people will have to now worry about where their next meal will come from because the millionaire Republicans wanted to play politics.
FOLLOW-UP:
Where are you, Mr. President?
WHAT SHOULD YOU SAY?
You vote down extending unemployment, yet you are fighting for extending tax breaks for billionaires?
Are you kidding me?
We’re dealing with people who are losing the ability to pay for food, health insurance, and staying in their home, and the other having 3% more in their offshore savings account.
This money goes right back into the economy, not some $20 million dollar painting, or a 7th European vacation home.
This is real!
I am fighting for the American people.
UNCOVERS:
If you are unwilling to fight for the American people, will people go out and fight for you in 2012?
You have to be out there, responding from the bully pulpit, EVERY DAY!
If people don’t SEE you fighting for them, it sends a message that you don’t care.
It makes you look weak and distant.
When you look strong, the Democratic Party looks strong.
Be an FDR!
