RESPONSE:
There are two issues here, Control and Connecting.
We voted for ‘No Drama Obama‘, because we were tired of fake, or irrational, emotion.
What we are looking for in this moment is JUSTIFIED, RATIONAL OUTRAGE, because that is what WE are feeling right now.
There is a very thin line of public perception between being Cool and CALM in Crisis and being Rigidly OUT-OF-TOUCH.
The way ‘The People’ CONNECT with their President is by sharing the same emotion, at the same time.
The President needs to set up a Command Center down there, a physical representation of order, and have the Photo Op of him being pissed off and in-control at the head of the table.
FOLLOW-UP:
Human beings are emotional AND visual; that is not always a bad thing.
This crisis is going on for weeks and weeks without a visual representation of anyone but BP in control.
BP should NOT be in control, and the American people need to SEE that.
BP should NOT be telling the FAA who can or cannot fly where.
BP Should NOT be telling law enforcement where pictures can or cannot be taken.
Clearly, the emotional public perception is that when the Government says they are in control, that it IS NOT TRUE. Fix that!
This isn’t about being FAKE, it is about be HUMAN.
SIDE POINTS:
Vulcans, or sometimes Vulcanians, are a fictional extraterrestrial humanoid species in the Star Trek universe who evolved on the planet Vulcan, and are noted for their attempt to live by reason and logic with no interference from emotion.

All THIS for 2 Days of Oil?
June 4th, 2010RESPONSE:
There is an estimated 50 million barrels in the reserve, and approximately 12,000 – 19,000 barrels are spilling every day.
To put these numbers in perspective:
As of August 31, 2009, the current US Strategic Oil Reserve inventory was 724 million barrels.
This equates to 34 days of oil at current daily US consumption levels of 21 million barrels a day.
That means that this one well has a little over 2 DAYS of oil, at our current level of consumption!
FOLLOW-UP:
If we cannot stomach the amount of oil coming out after only a few weeks, think about how much oil is used PER DAY!
The larger disaster is our overall level of oil consumption.
UNCOVERS:
We must learn from this tragedy, and put out focus on alternative energy sources and technologies.
SIDE POINTS:
The US has 21 billion barrels in proven oil reserves (that is, oil that we are pretty sure we can get).
The current inventory is displayed on the SPR’s website.
One barrel = 42 US gallons, or about 159 liters
